Product Information

KE10082 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The Mouse GDF-15 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous mouse GDF-15. The assay recognizes mouse GDF-15. An antibody specific for mouse GDF-15 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The mouse GDF-15 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another antibody of biotinylated specific for mouse GDF-15 is added to detect the captured mouse GDF-15 protein. For signal development, Streptavidin-HRP is added, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information

Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) is a member of the transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) superfamily and has anti-inflammatory properties. GDF15 is expressed at a very low level under physiological conditions but strongly upregulated in inflammation related diseases and cancers. GDF15 is a potential diagnostic biomarker of mitochondrial myopathies. It is well known that activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) and CHOP induce GDF15 expression during mitochondrial stress and dysfunction in humans and mice.
