Background Information
The ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF) family of small GTP-binding proteins are involved in vesicular transport regulation and in controlling cytoskeletal organization and cell adhesion. These proteins are best characterized as regulators of membrane traffic. The Centaurin GTPase-activating protein family comprise a subset of ARF regulatory molecules that transduce PI 3-kinase activation into coordinated control of ARF-dependent pathways. ARAP3 (Arf-GAP with Rho-GAP domain, ANK repeat and PH domain-containing protein 3) is unique for its dual specificity GAPs (GTPase activating protein) activity for Arf6 (ADP-ribosylation factor 6) and RhoA (Ras homolog gene family member A) regulated by PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 (phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate) and a small GTPase Rap1-GTP and is involved in regulation of cell shape and adhesion.
