Background Information
CAPZA1 belongs to the F-actin-capping protein alpha subunit family. F-actin-capping proteins bind in a Ca2+-independent manner to the fast growing ends of actin filaments (barbed end) thereby blocking the exchange of subunits at these ends. Unlike other capping proteins (such as gelsolin and severin), these proteins do not sever actin filaments. The potential for CAPZ is a therapeutic target in the management of heart failure. Future research is required to determine the mechanisms by which changes in CAPZ impact myocardial function and intracellular signalling, and to develop feasible strategies that can manipulate CAPZ in the intact heart. (PMID: 15614336 ) This antibody is specific to CAPZA1.
