Background Information

TRPA1 (Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1) is a member of the transient receptor potential (TRP) channel family and is a non-selective cation channel. TRPA1 is predominantly expressed in sensory neurons and is involved in a variety of physiological activities, such as stabilizing cellular membrane potentials, maintaining cellular fluid homeostasis, and regulating intercellular signaling. TRPA1 is a multimodal cell membrane receptor that senses different stimuli and upon activation generates action potential signals via osmolality, temperature and inflammatory factors. TRPA1 has been associated with neurogenic inflammation, osteoarthritis, atopic dermatitis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, migraine headache, cancer pain, gout and other diseases, and it is a promising target for drug therapy.
